Santiago, Chile. One hundred and fifty years ago, on the 21st of January 1870, seven missionaries, headed by Fr. Pablo Vallier, CMF, appointed by Fr. Joseph Xifre, arrived in the Americas for the first time to found a community in Chile. They arrived in Santiago and established in the present Zenteno Street.
Given this very important moment in the life of the Congregation, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the arrival/Claretian presence in America, MICLA organized a Claretian Spirituality Congress hosted by San Jose del Sur Province at the Centro El Agora de Santiago in the capital of Chile.
Participating in this Congress are the members of the General Government and the Major Superiors of the whole Congregation who took part a week ago in the preparatory meeting for the upcoming XXVI General Chapter in 2021 held in Talgante, Chile. Also present are the members of the Claretian Family and members of the different MICLA Organisms, other religious congregations, and laypeople.
The Congress that runs from January 21 to 25, 2020 is filled with talks and workshops from specially picked resource persons. Vicar General and Prefect of Spirituality, Fr. Gonzalo Fernandez, CMF, the first among the invited speakers, spoke to the participants of the significance of the event through his topic: “Missionaries to the End: Significance of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Claretians in America in relation to the 150th anniversary of the Easter of our Founder”.
